Tesseract Companion

Let the agent work in your own browser

Companion connects Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc or Vivaldi to the Tesseract app on your computer. The agent can then do the job in the browser you already use, on the sites you are already signed in to.

Add from the Chrome Web Store Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Vivaldi

Or download it as a zip (version 0.11.39 · 3.2 MB) and load it yourself — how.

Your own tabs

The agent can open pages, click and type in the browser you already use, including on sites you are signed in to. You pick the tab it works in with the globe button in the Tesseract message box.

Your passwords

It carries Vault: saved logins filled on the site you are on, two-factor codes next to the login they belong to, and a password generator.

A side panel

Open the Tesseract assistant in your browser’s side panel, next to the page you are reading.

Install

Two steps, under a minute

You need the Tesseract app installed on this computer and opened at least once, so your browser can find it.

  1. 1

Add it from the Chrome Web Store

Press Add to Chrome on its page, then Add extension. In Edge, first allow extensions from other stores when it asks. Brave, Arc and Vivaldi install it as Chrome does. Open the Chrome Web Store page

  2. 2

    Check it in Tesseract

Press the globe button in the message box. Your browser’s windows and tabs are listed there — pick one, and the agent works in it.

Or from the zip

For a browser that cannot install from the store, such as one your workplace manages, or a newer build than the store has yet. Download the zip (version 0.11.39 · 3.2 MB), then:

  1. 1

Unzip it where it can stay

Such as Documents. The browser loads the extension from that folder, so moving or deleting it removes the extension.

  2. 2

    Open your browser’s extensions page

Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. In Edge it is edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions.

  3. 3

    Turn on Developer mode

The switch is at the top right of that page (bottom left in Edge).

  4. 4

Press Load unpacked and choose the folder

Pick the folder that holds manifest.json. Tesseract Companion appears in the list.

  5. 5

    Check it in Tesseract

Press the globe button in the message box. Your browser’s windows and tabs are listed there — pick one, and the agent works in it.

Good to know

  • The store copy updates itself. Your browser keeps it current. One loaded from the zip stays at the version you downloaded: for a new one, download it again, replace the folder’s contents, and press the reload arrow on its card at chrome://extensions.
  • Why Developer mode, for the zip. It is how Chrome installs an extension from outside its store. Your browser may remind you that a developer-mode extension is on; that is expected. The store copy needs none of it.
  • One or the other. Both are the same extension and either works with the app. Keep just one: if you move to the store copy, remove the zip one at chrome://extensions.
  • Which browsers. Chrome and the browsers built on it: Edge, Brave, Arc and Vivaldi. Safari and Firefox are not supported.
